I Tried to Knit Good

Well. This started as a stranding project. I was so excited about knitting with two hands. That's right. Throwing with the right and picking with the left. Then I got to the (creepy) children and I thought ok, this is where it's gonna get fun. LIKE, SO NOT. The gaps are too big to carry the yarn in back. I tried intarsia. Yah, that's difficult in the round. So I read about the Festive Knitting method. Works conceptually but this project is too small and fiddly. Finally I settled on duplicate stitch. Tons and tons of duplicate stitch.


That's a lot of ends to weave in. I don't know if my adult onset ADD can handle it.

The weather has been chilly and a pile of handknit socks sit in my drawer. I put this pair of Jaywalkers on this morning and had this deep thought: There is nothing quite like the feel of handknit socks - period.

Hooray for knitting!

36 Days 'Til Christmas

Congratulations to (blogless?) Sharon for winning my No Movement Move Contest! I look forward to seeing a picture of your completed smoke ring scarf thingy.

I loved reading all the comments! It was quite interesting how those 2 skeins of yarn called out to everyone so differently.

Now I haven't much time to chat today. There are 36 days left until Christmas and I have a very important project to finish!

KNIT, KNIT, KNIT!

The Current Situation

Remember the Great Terrace Tragedy of '06? Apparently it was just a warm up.

Last winter, Hotty Hubby and I started shopping for an apartment. We found one. We hired a lawyer and made our down payment. The building was a rental and is in the process of being converted to condominiums. How nice! Brand new apartment, a couple customized renovations worked into the contract... We should be able to move in August. September. October. November. Someday.

Le sigh.

Needless to say, our current apartment is just a tad too small and thus the reason for the move. (Though no matter how big or small your family is, you can pretty much make that statement for any NYC apartment.) I have been spending every spare moment downsizing. I call it "downsizing" when the truth of the matter is I am just "sizing". Baby gear and Hotty Hubby's wine habit coupled with my yarn habit has us bursting at the seams. I am basically trying to make everything fit right now in the hopes that we can survive a few more days/weeks/months in this space.

Anyhoo, I went through my yarn and decided that knitting really isn't my thing so I put my whole stash for sale on ebay.

Oh I am funny! Yes, indeed! Ok, I am not about to quit knitting and certainly not selling my entire stash. I did put some goodies up for grabs and you can bid on them here. Better hurry, bidding ends soon!

I have this here Morehouse Merino laceweight. I bought it at the Union Square Greenmarket about 2 years ago. I am not exactly sure of the yardage, I am guessing there is a total of 420 yards with these two skeins. I love the vibrant yet earthy colors, but never made anything with it. Morehouse laceweight is very unique. It has a rustic look to it. I think it is quite neat. So why am I giving it away? I think YOU can make something better with it. And don't worry, I have other Morehouse Merino laceweight in my stash, I truly am cool with passing this on.

I'm an FO Ho!

Well, look at that! Another FO. Go me. Cashew isn't quite ready for her hardcore winter hats that Grandma brought from Finland, and her other little cream cap is too small. Thank goodness Mommy can knit. How ever could this bumpkin continue on the cuteness factor without a sweet little bonnet?


Baby Bonnet from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. Yarn is Morehouse Merino, I am not sure what colorway. Natural and more natural? Anyhoo, I got gauge, it's soft and warm and is cute to boot. My only modification was to add a couple extra rows of garter stitch to the bottom edge to sufficiently cover Cashew's ears and get a little more wear out of it as her noggin grows. My favorite part is the i-cord edging. I can't believe that this is my first time doing an i-cord edge. It is so cool! It's neat looking and easy-peasy. So adding that to the Annie Book of Knowledge to pull out next time I want to get all fancy with my knitting.

And speaking of fancy knitting, I have a couple more projects to finish before I can get to work on Cashew's Christmas stocking. So many stitches...so little time...
