Anastasia Socks

I have picked out yarn for my next sock project which is Minty's delightful Anastasia Socks. This is Mocha Rose by Brooklyn Handspun. I think the soft variegation from beige to pink will work well with the pattern.

While I was pregnant, it was hard to imagine this little baby and I had trouble picking out things for her. Obviously with a girl, you can always go for pink, but I was anti everything pink. I didn't want rosebuds and applique. Bright and primary seemed more our speed. Funny how from the day she was born, I have covered her head to toe in pink. Yes, including the pacifier. And everyday her Daddy and I coo at her with baby talk and make absolute idiots out of ourselves. We are loving every minute of it! Our little "WOOPS!" has become a big "WOO HOO!"


So in honor of Anastasia, I will knit these socks out of pink yarn. I actually already made her a little pair of socks from my Brooklyn Handspun. I figure that I will still have enough yardage to complete a pair for myself and a new, matching pair for her. I know only knitters will get the whole "socks in honor of" thing, and trust me, I am still plugging away at Curlicue and have more sweaters and such to come!

Spring Fling

This weekend was absolutely beautiful so Hotty Hubby and I took our darling Cashew to Central Park for the first time. (Side note - yesterday HH looks at a book of mine on the coffee table and asks "Isn't that the Yarn Harlot?" Why yes it is! And he says "Oh my GAWD, I can't believe I knew that was the Yarn Harlot." Heh heh. We're training them well, eh Chante?)


The only project I am working on right now is a secret one. Life has been a little stressful lately and I still can't hit the liquor cabinet, so I decided to cheat on my current project and have a little fling with some Manos Cotton Stria and a Debbie Bliss Baby Shrug.


The shrug is for this little bundle of yummy goodness. Here we are modeling our Mommy & Me socks. Hurry up and take the picture Daddy!

Return of the Curlicue

I am back to working on the Curlicue Coverlet! My fingers are still a bit numb/tingly at the tips, but it is so much better. I hardly notice it anymore. So here I am half way through section 9. These sections go fast, but my knitting time is quite sporadic. I finally figured out how to knit and nurse (ala knittypants), but that's only good for a small project like socks, and really only for a couple of rows. At least until I build up power forearms that can hold a growing baby. Now if I could pump and knit, that would be awesome. Pumping has got to be the most boring thing EVER. Sit, hold nozzle, wait. Shoot me, I'm a knitter! I can't just sit there and be milked like a cow!

But I digress. So here's a blob of Curlicue. 6 more sections to go!

Our little Easter Tulip. Any doubt about making one of those petal bibs from One Skein? Just delicious. (Biased, of course.) This bib was a gift, but I see myself making some in the very near future!

My Feet are BACK

Falling Leaves are done! Schaefer Anne yarn, size us1 needles. Two at once using magic loop.


These were my first toe-up socks and my first go at a short row heel. I dig it! As I had suspected, they are just a hair too big, but I have decided not to care about it. They are very comfortable and I love the way the yarn knit up for this pattern.


A couple nights ago, I sat at my computer with my sock and learned how to do a tubular bind off. (Savannahchick has GREAT instructions here.) While fussing over it, I had an AIM conversation with my pal Nancy. 3/4 way through the finish, she informs me of an easier way to achieve a stretchy bind off for a toe up sock. "M1 every other stitch and then just bind off!" UGH! Would have been so much easier, but then we both agreed that a tubular bind off is quite pretty and Schaefer Anne is worthy of it. So for you Nancy, I include a close up of my tubular bind off.


My feet aren't swollen anymore and they aren't hidden by my belly. Yippee yahoo yah! Next up, a set of "Mommy and Me" Anastasia socks by Minty! (Yah, yah, still working on the Curlicue, too.)
