Yarn Harlot's One Row Handspun Scarf pattern knit with Brook's farm wool and silk blend. (Rhinebeck!) Hotty Hubby says he likes it and is wearing it everyday. Hooray!

My Weekend Plans...No Casting On!

I thought I would be posting about the Black Hole phase of this scarf, but I rewound the yarn and realized I only have a little bit left. The end is near! As long as I sit down and knit!


It doesn't look like much yet, but the Curlicue Coverlet is moving along. Must not cast on anything else, at least for a week or so. Must make some serious progress...


However that won't stop me from purchasing yarn. I have had my eye on this sweater since well before I ever knew I was pregnant, or really thought about kids for that matter. I am bound and determined to make it. So there's the yarn. Yep. There it is. Taunting me. Ready to be knit. Knit me.


And to make matters worse, I finally got my swollen, pregger hands on this book. My Post It notes say it all, I guess.


I turn around from taking my blog photos and what do I see?

Moving Along

Chante & Schrodinger (and all who agreed with them) YOU ROCK! Thanks for your advice with picking up the wraps for my short row in the Curlicue Coverlet. I am now moving on...


Even more so since this little diversion is done! I modified this pattern, omitting the K1, P1 detail in the leg and did an eye of partridge heel, and kitchener finish when I had 12 stitches left. The yarn is Brooklyn Handspun in Mocha Rose. Love!

Red Scarf Project

The scarf is done! I used Lorna's Laces Superwash in Bold Red. (And it is BOLD.) Broken rib all the way, which leaves an interesting texture on the reverse side. I am quite pleased. About 5" wide and 60" long. The edges were curling a bit, so after washing I also steam blocked the begeezus out of it. Because if that, there may be a few extra inches added to the length but I didn't check.


This scarf is for the Red Scarf Project as organized by the Orphan Foundation of America. Hila suggested that Sit n' Knit New York get involved and we have. Yesterday I collected scarves from other members...


And I received a total of 19 scarves! So I am off to the post office to mail them. Hooray!

Curlicue Query

I'd like to finish this blanket before the baby comes so I finally cast on. (No, the scarves aren't done, but progress is made daily...though little side projects keep creeping up. Of course.) I have read some grumbling about the Curlicue Coverlet, but the majority seem to think the pattern is fine, just pay attention. One modification I am following is to do a provisional cast on so that there is no seaming, just a nice 3 needle bind off at the end. That works very well for me!


So here is my first issue. The first section is quite easy to do. Some short rows and wrapped stitches, not my favorite aesthetically. They are always loose, and there's that whole lift up the wrap and knit it with the stitch thing. I want to make sure that when it is time to knit these wrapped stitches, it's very clean. Any recommendations, since these stitches are more loose? Is it enough, truly, to knit the wrap with the stitch? Should I also knit through the back loop of the live stitch? Suggestions welcome!

Next On the List

Enough of those UFO's, here are my WIP's! Still plugging away at Hotty Hubby's scarf. He claims he'll wear this one since the colors are so cool. With the temperature staying the way it is, he may not need this scarf until next winter. However, I keep knitting. (Yarn is Brook's Farm.)


I am determined to participate in the Red Scarf Project. With the deadline creeping up and my distaste actually, for knitting scarves, I figured that if I started my scarf on Jan 1 and knit at least 3 inches a day, not only would I have a plenty long scarf ready to be mailed by Jan 22, I could set it aside everyday without guilt and work on something else. It's working out great! 3 inches is very easy to accomplish and then I set it aside and work on something else. Like the other scarf above. Ack. (Yarn is Lorna's Laces superwash.)


This I am not actually working on at all right now, but I have every intention of finishing. It's Brooke's Column of Leaves scarf made with Brook's Farm yarn. And yes, it's for ME!


And a little something to break up the scarf monotony are some little socks for my kiddo. The yarn is Brooklyn Handspun in the Mocha Rose colorway. I really want to make a pair for myself, but I have to finish those scarves, first. But little bitty socks? No problem.


So once these deadlines are met, I am full force KNIT FOR BABY mode. I am ready to cast on for the Oat Couture Curlicue Coverlet. This is my third attempt at using yarn I like, finally settling for a tried and true. Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Dusty Sage.

Thank you all for your comments! Mary - your question from long ago has haunted me. What am I knitting for myself? Well I am working on that. And yes, it has been one heck of a good year. A little crazy, but all good.

A shout out to Minty whom I met this past week. Turns out we are neighbors! (seriously, 2 blocks!) I love finding out that my fellow knitters live in the neighborhood.

Tomorrow Never Comes

Clearly no rush to showcase my UFO's of 2006. But by golly, I said I would show them and I will. Here you have Embossed Leaves socks. I was so excited to knit these, and then just fell out of love. Not sure what happened, but I don't think we'll get back together. It's not you...it's me...


Orangina. Pregnancy. The two just didn't go together. As much as I love the pattern and the yarn, a tiny little sleeveless top doesn't go with my gargantuan belly and big ass. I haven't decided yet if I should just knit this a size bigger and wear it this summer anyway (baby will be born by then) or reassign the yarn to a little dress for the bambino. (Color is not at all accurate in this photo.)


I Trekked, stopped for a breather and apparently needed the needles for something else. I love this yarn. I think I enjoyed the pattern. Not sure what happened, but there wasn't enough oomph there to keep me going. I do plan on knitting socks with this yarn. Maybe plain socks.


I was so excited to join the Petals Collection sock club. My first batch of yarn came and I remember I was the first person to post on the knitalong. And never finished the second sock. The first sock seemed a little short, and I guess the idea of reknitting the toe just shrank my mojo. I might finish them. I might not.


I restarted this hat 3 times. I had this grand idea of knitting a fair-isle hat with these muted tones (Morehouse Merino) and for the life of me just couldn't pull the pattern together. I was borrowing from several different patterns and I guess it just hurt my placenta brain. Finally I put it aside. We've had the warmest winter anyway. Seriously, who needs a hat when it's 70 degrees in January?


Yah, who knows what these are. All I know now is as soon as I am done with this post, they will be frogged and put back in the stash!

Now that all my skeletons are out of the closet, my shame on display for all, I feel as though I can move on. Rest in peace, little unfinished knits. I'm outtie!

2006 - A Retrospective in 2 Parts

PART 1 - I like to think it was a good year. I made socks for the first time, and continued to make them. 8 pairs, actually. (1 photo is missing). 2 stuffed animals, baby hats, baby sweaters, even a sweater for me. 25 projects total! (A couple missing gifts never got photographed.) Granted, they are small, but I'll also say that they are mighty.

I will bask in my glory of Finished Objects, and post the Unfinished Objects tomorrow.
